ProtoGen is a utility, working together with your PC and
installed
DOS NDIS-based network card to measure the ability of network
components
to handle multi-protocol traffic.ProtoGen creates IP, IPX, XNS,
DECNET
and APPLETALK network traffic to test and stress nics, bridges, routers
and switches. It can also assist in systems testing by simulating
the varied background traffic of a production network of different MAC
addresses, network addresses, protocols and packet lengths. ProtoGen
can
be set up to receive a stream of serialized multi-protocol packets from
another ProtoGen station, and report if there are missing, out of
sequence or duplicate packets in the received packet stream. At $3986.00
the cheapest full media rate protocol generator in the industry.
The following statistics are reported on the stream of serial numbers
received
by ProtoGen:
SERIAL NUMBER: The last serial number received.
IN SEQUENCE: The number of times the serial number received
was one greater than the last serial number received.
OUT OF SEQUENCE: The number of times the serial number
received was less than the last serial number received.
OCCURRENCE OF MISSED PACKETS: The number of times the
serial number received was more than the last serial number
received
plus 1.
NUMBER OF MISSED PACKETS: The total number of all the
missed packets from all the occurrences of missed packets.
DUPLICATE: The number of times the serial number received
was equal to the last serial number received.
RECEIVE OVERRUNS: The receive buffer is set for a maximum
of 100 serial numbers. If there are more than 95 serial numbers
in
the receive buffer, additional serial numbers are dropped, and
the
counter is incremented.
